Do we ever learn from the past?

Jimmy Carter In 1980 was our party's sitting president at that time and I opposed him during the primaries, because I knew he could not win in the general election against Reagan. In 1984 I opposed Mondale because once again I knew he could not win. In 1988 I opposed Dukakis. I knew he could not win. In 2004 I opposed John Kerry I knew he could not win. However, being a good Democrat I supported most of these good people in the general election, even when I knew they did not have much of a chance.

If John McCain wins in South Carolina tonight, he will most likely become the Republican's nominee. I hate to say it, Hillary will loose in a general election against McCain, and for that matter Obama would too. Most polls would back me up on my last point.

John Edwards is the only Democrat at this stage that can beat John McCain
I have not given up on Edwards. I will stay with him if he stays with us.

This is a message to the Democratic Party's power brokers. When our party goes down in defeat in November loosing another presidential election. The day after the election I don't want to hear, from anyone that is in a power position with in The Party asking the question, what happen?

In 1988 we thought we had that election in the bag. We had a two term Republican President ready to leave office, our nominee was up by 20 points in the polls that summer before the election, and we lost in November. if Hillary or Obama receives our party's nomination, we might as well forget about the entire south from Missouri southward, leaving our party with little margin for error. Yes I have been down this road to many times before. I hope I am wrong. I don't want to say I told you so.

Ambassador Young is Right

Recently former Ambassador and Mayor of Atlanta, Andrew Young stated " This is not Obama's time". He went on to say that Obama does not have the political network too win in a general election.


I agree with Ambassador Young. Obama cannot win. When you consider all the positive press that Obama has been receiving in the last three to four weeks his over all poll numbers have only marginally improved. Especially when you consider how much of a nose dive Hillary's poll numbers have been taking, one must considered the possibly that Obama's numbers might be topping out.

If you agree, this up coming presidential election is one of the most important elections in our nation's history , and if your considering in supporting Obama, there is several questions you need to ask yourself. Is Obama the best candidate to win in a general election? Is America ready to elect an African American male, who's middle name just happens to be Hussien? Is he aggressive and strong enough to take on the Republican attack machine? I know it is sad when we have to consider one's ethic back ground not to mention gender or religious affiliations when considering a candidate.
The answer for all the above questions for me is NO. We must deal with the reality of the situation. Obama cannot win in a general election. I wish all elections were determine by the position that a candidate takes on issues, but we all know that is not the case.

The Democratic Party in the last 40 years have nominated candidates if not dead on arrival in entering the general election they were certainly on life support. The two candidates that were an exception had one thing in common, they were from the south. This time around the only candidate from the south is John Edwards and it just happens, that independent polling shows he would be the strongest candidate going up against the Republicans in the general. We can go ahead and nominate Obama or even Hillary for that matter. Is it worth the risk considering what is at stake? My answer once again is NO. We have to nominate Edwards.

Our party was pragmatic in the ninety because we wanted to win so we nominated Bill Clinton. Let us be pragmatic once again and nominate Edwards because we need to win.
